Here is testimonial from Veronica and her experience of living with type 1 diabetes.

 

My name is Veronica and I have had Type 1 Diabetes for over 35 years.   During those years I have done my best to learn about the condition so that I could manage it well and keep healthy.  I joined Diabetes UK and became a Type 2 diabetes Risk Assessor and Volunteer Speaker.  I am also on the Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Board.

 

I have attended a DAFNE (Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating) course which I found extremely helpful and improved my diabetes control – my HbA1C is currently 51.

 

Managing diabetes, type 1 and type 2, is not always easy and there are many ‘ups and downs’ along the way. For a number of years I was involved with the Mid-Somerset branch of Diabetes UK until the group folded in 2000. It would be good to see a new group develop from Creating Health as I feel there can be so much benefit from talking to and supporting others who have the same condition and problems.

 

I heard Dr. Murdoch’s talk at my local surgery last year and felt that the ‘Human five’ approach to health, together with a lower-carb diet made a lot of sense. Over the last year I have carefully cut down my carbs and have also been able to reduce my doses of insulin.   I feel much healthier and, although I haven’t lost weight, I have found it easier to maintain my current weight. My husband is also enjoying the low-carb diet and he is losing weight too.
